This season has seen the start of the Masters division, where over 35’s compete in a mid-week twilight T/20 match. Our first game saw us taking on Belmont in what was as close match you can have without drawing.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first our Lion Masters managed a total of 8 for 132.

Best with Bat: Daniel Beckett (35) & Mark Cameron (32*)

Belmont’s chase was on target from the beginning of their inning as our bowlers and fielders worked hard to defend their total in the end we managed to just hold on and win by 1 run as Belmont finished their 20 overs 5 for 131.

Best with Ball: Martin Krause (1-6), Mark McLachlan (1-9), David Stanbridge (1-11) & Simon Wall (1-27).

NDCA - Masters Cup Round 3 - Wed 23/11/16

Charlestown travelled to Townson Oval today for round 3 of the Masters Cup. Both our Team and Charlestown were guaranteed going into the semi-final as a result in this game ether way would not change this. The Charlestown skipper won the toss and elected to bat and almost as the first ball was being bowled the rain began to fall. Bowling was not easy with the wet ball and the Charlestown batters were finding the fence frequently as the rain increase the players stayed out there and finished the 20 overs however the umpire had to call the game off as it was  no longer deemed fit for play.

Charlestown finished 4 for 169 from their 20 overs.

Best with Ball: Mitchell Irwin (3-32).

NDCA - Masters Cup Round SF - Wed 30/11/16

Semi-final time and we come up against Waratah Mayfield who finished 2nd in their pool. Winning the toss we elected to bat first. Some big hitting from our Opener Clinton Daniels saw us get off to a flying start and some late over hitting from skipper Chad White we managed a total of 6 for 162.

Best with Bat: Clinton Daniels (64) & Chad White (40)

Waratah Mayfield got off to a good start and in the middle overs they were not to far off the run rate but our bowling was good enough to hang on as Waratah finished 9 for 149 from their 20 overs.

This sees the guys into next week’s grand-final.

Best with Ball: Mark McLachlan (3-15), Gregory Weller (3-26) & Daniel Beckett (3-26).

NDCA - Masters Cup Round GF - Wed 7/12/16

Grand-final between Merewether and Charlestown was most fitting after the last time they met in the pool round rain halted a result from happening.

However this time the coin toss fell our way and we elected to bat first. We finished our 20 overs 5 for 149.

Best with Bat: Mark McLaughlin (66)

Our turn to bowl saw a different tactic as pace off the ball seamed to cause more trouble for the Charlestown batters. The plan worked a treat and by the time 20 overs were up Charlestown could only manage to be 8 for 120. The win allowed us to hold up the Gilmour Cup, awarded to the winners of the inaugural Newcastle Masters Twenty20 final.

Best with Ball: (stats to come)
