MDCC Round 1 & 2 Wrap 1/10/16 – 8/10/16

CRICKET IS BACK!!! And so are the round reports we start with our 1st Grade side kicking us off over the October long weekend with Round 2 commencing play for all but one other grade.

1st Grade (1/10/16)

The side got underway with a one-day match vs Belmont played at the neutral venue of Waratah Oval.

Our Skipper Simon Moore got us underway winning the toss and electing to bat first.

In the sides 50 overs of batting a strong partnership at the top saw us underway before there were a few starts and stops with both sides taking momentum at stages however they managed to sneak their way up to a total of 10 for 177.

Top Batters: Pat Darwen (38), Simon Moore (35), Jono Dunn (26).

Defending the total our opening bowlers made early inroads having the Belmont side 3 for 18 and then our side held most of the momentum till Belmont were 8 for 101, However with Belmont’s skipper still not out the remaining two batters worked well rotating the strike and landing a few big blows to the score themselves the game was still on. Fighting till the end our lads took the final wicket in the 46th over with Belmont on 171 in a cracking first game to the season.

Top Bowlers: Josh Geary (3-32), Tim O’Neill (3-42) & Sam Palmer (2-30).

Round 2… We start off with our C&S Sides.

D6’s

First Game of the season kicked off with a side our D6’s got the play the season before CBCB.  At this stage I can report that our young guns got to bowl first and did a great job of bowling out their opposition for 105 in 27.5 overs.

Best with Ball: (stats to come)

Our batter looking to start off their season with a win appeared to chase down the total with relative comfort as they passed the total in the 22nd over finishing 4 for 109.

Best with Bat: (stats to come)

C3’s

Our C3 side started the season off with a Bye earning 4 points to the ladder, the guy will get on the park next weekend for their first chance at playing the game we love.

(Fingers crossed weather permitting)

A Grade (Managers Report)

First round of the season saw our A Grade side vs Tech College were our skipper won the toss and chose to bat. After losing 3 quick wickets Merewether failed to get on top of the Tech bowlers all innings and were bowled out for 96.

Best with Bat: Darren Cousins (28) & Jayson Pratten (16).

Merewether picked up 3 early wickets to have Tech in trouble early at 3 for 13 but once they settled in they cruised past our total only 4 wicket down.

Best with Ball: Adam Britt (3-18) & Simon Wall (1-30).

The District Grades all played Hamilton-Wickham in one-day matches this round to get their season underway.

4th Grade

Traveling out to No.6 Sports Ground for their first round the guys showed up to an interesting pitch with a few little spots of concern however after winning the toss on the relative small oval our 4th grade skipper Daryl Daniels looked to make a positive move and bat first. It proved to be an uneasy start for us as the Ham-Wicks bowling attack were able to create chance after chance and soon setting an aggressive target soon turned into batting out the overs. After our 40 overs with much thanks to our young batters guarding their wicket our side managed to reach 9 for 126.

Best with Bat: Nicholas Hart (24) & Jacob Pockney (20*).

With a target set our players did what they know how to do best and that’s give a good fight, keeping the run rate low the guys managed to get 5 wickets before the Ham-Wicks batters managed to pass the target in the 32nd over ending 5 for 130.

Best with Ball: Nicholas Hart (2-16) & Drew Sellers (2-22).

3rd Grade

First home game at Empire Park for our 3rd graders allowed them to take in the sea air before and during play. At the toss our 3rd grade skipper Matt Jordan won the toss and saw something in the pitch and set Ham-Wicks into Bat.

Our bowlers were able to create lots of early chances which were taken and it wasn’t long before momentum was well and truly in the skipper’s hands with almost every bowling change creating wickets our 3rd graders managed to bowl Ham-Wicks out for 86 runs in 29 overs.

Best with Ball: Mitch Piller (3-13), Ryan Mitchison (2-6) & Sam Holding (2-17).

To say our batters went out to the middle with aggressive intent would be an understatement chasing down the total in 15.2 overs hitting 12 boundaries and ending only 1 wicket down finishing 1 for 87.

Best with Bat: Veral Vishnoi (28*), Zac McGuigan (27*) & Rory Kalinis (24).

2nd Grade

With Passmore Oval out for this round our 2nd Graders moved over to Hawkins Oval for this round’s away game. New 2nd Grade skipper Mitch Morgan lost the toss and was asked to bowl first which the skipper was not to sadden by as there was overcast condition and a little rain just before play.

It did not take our bowlers long to get in the action with both opening bowlers picking up a wicket with the last ball of their first overs. With every partnership the Ham-Wicks batters looked to be building it was not long before our lads made and took the chance needed to break it. We had 7 bowlers all taking a wicket in which we were able to bowl out Hamilton for 133 runs.

Best with Ball: Josh Emerton (3-13) & Mitch Morgan (2-31).

With Jono Dunn and Scott Montgomery opening the run chase they got their side of to a great start with a partnership of 76. A few middle order hiccups were the only bad part of a great run chase lead by Jono as he saw the chase through to the end not out in a great innings. The lads finished 5 for 135.

Best with Bat: Jono Dunn (72*) & Scott Montgomery (29).

1st Grade

First Grade played at Townson Oval this week for the grand final rematch and winning the toss our skipper Simon Moore elected to bat.

Unfortunately for us this was Hamilton-Wickham’s day. In somewhat of a surprising performance from our side the top order and middle order did not fire as we slumped to 7 for 45 our tailenders managed to keep the Ham-Wicks bowlers out there a little longer before our innings coming to an end all out for 79.

Best with Bat: Courtney Moulton (17*).

It took the Hamilton-Wickham batsman only 11.5 overs in with to run down the target in what was a convincing victory over our lads finishing 1 for 81.

Best with Ball: Dan Morton (1-24).

Country Cricket NSW - McDonalds Country Cup Round 1 - Sun 9 Oct 2016

1st round in the McDonalds Country Cup put us up against Charlestown. Playing at Townson Oval again after the day before led to defeat our players needed to bounce back quick with only a few changes to the side from Saturday (Sam Palmer-Regional Big Bash) and a few unavailability’s for Sunday cricket we still looked to put our best foot forward.

At the toss the coin fell the way of the Charlestown Skipper and he decided to bat.

Our bowlers started off well and had the Charlestown side 5 for 72 before they managed to just scrap out their 50 overs losing the last wicket on the very last ball managing a competitive 178 runs.

Best with ball: Isasc Hillery (4-25), David Celep (3-43) & Josh Geary (2-23).

The run chase was led by our skipper in an innings of dominance the skipper top scored for our side but fell 34 runs short of our target before some big hitting from the returning Sam Gilmour was able to bring our side home finishing 3 for 179.

Best with bat: Simon Moore (91) & Sam Gilmour (39*).
