MDCC Round 11 Wrap 10/1/15

 

D6’s

D6’s travelled to Fletcher for an away game and winning the toss elected to bat first. Batting 34.3 overs Merewether ended 10 for 158 with Jordan Walker (41) continuing his impressive form with the willow. Fletcher helped out providing 46 extras.

The young D6’s went about defending the total and the game came down to the very last over of the day Fletcher needing 9 runs to win while we needed only 1 more wicket to bowl them out. Jordan Walker was given the last over and with the first ball going for 4 the young man remained calm and next ball took the stumps out of the ground providing a thrilling end to the day. Fletcher ended 10 for 158.

Bowlers of the day where:  Jordan Walker (3-25), Harry Martine (2-19) & Darren James (2-22).

 

D5’s

This week D5’s played Waratah Mayfield and after losing the toss had to bowl first. Waratah finished 10 for 153 with our bowlers Robert Pollock (4-28), Darren Haiser (2-14) & Jeeva Ramasamy (2-18) best for the day.

The run chase went down to the wire after a few early wickets Jeeva Ramasamy (75) continues his impressive form for the year but with only little contributions from other batters this week our lads went down finish 9 for 144 after 35 overs.

 

B5’s

Merewether B5’s came up against Gunyah Gumboots today and with having to bowl first our guys where on the back foot early Gunyah where able to bat their 35 overs finishing 9 for 206. Derreck McCarthur (3-49), Andrew Woods (2-19), John Mundey (2-36) & John Farmer (2-39) all worked hard with the ball.

Unfortunately the run chase didn’t get going with wickets tumbling we could only bat 18 overs finishing 10 for 62.

 

A Grade

Merewether lost the toss and Warners Bay decided to bat first and scored 134 all out. Pick of the bowlers was Darren Cousins (4-34) of 9 overs & Chad White (3-37) of 10 overs. Thomas Henshaw and Darren Cousins also contributed in the field with direct throw run outs.

Chasing 135 for victory the boys were solid all the way and got the runs 3 wickets down with Vibushna Lingabala or Vibs for short batted the whole innings and got (44*), Next was skipper Craig Plain who brought us home with a skippers knock of (27*).

Mention all so goes to Brad Davies (21), Ben Woollie (19) & Darren Cousins (18) who all contributed in a fine Team win.

4th Grade

Playing Newcastle City in a one day match this round our 4th graders won the toss and had a bat first out at Empire Park and after a little shake at the start the guys were able to bat out the 40 overs and set a target of 8 for 170. Patrick Huolohan (47) & Rhys Fallavollita (30*) had the highest contributions to the total.

With tight bowling from the start we were able to provide pressure on city and with regular wickets City never looked to trouble our total ending 10 for 107.Terry O'Brien (4-36), Rhys Fallavollita (3-21) & Ian Gray (2-21) did the damage.

 

3rd Grade

Learmonth Park was the venue for our 3rd graders as they where to take on City and with City winning the toss we were sent into the field and as City’s inning coming to an end all out for 160 we had a respectable run chase on our hands. Eddie Dunne (3-24), Dan Andrews (2-14) best with the ball.

The run chase always seemed to be off track until Eddie Dunne (69*) came out with the team at 7 for 70 and after early bowling figures made sure it was his day out there. With the other batters feeding Eddie the strike our 3rd graders ended 9 for 162 off 37.2 overs. Other contributors, Dan Andrews (24) & Jake Miller (22).

 

2nd Grade

2s Played at Townson Oval this week and winning the toss elected to Bat first. A difficult innings saw our boys end 10 for 142 with Jono Dunn (35) & Chad Mayo (22) best with bat.

Our Bowlers did their jobs incredibly well not really allowing City into the match and with bowling figures from Cameron Lawes (3-12), Sam Palmer (3-22) & Tommo Croft (2-12) City could only manage to end 10 for 73.

 

1st Grade

Merewether & Newcastle City played their ond day match at No.1 Sports Ground this round and with City winning the toss sent our guys in to set the total for the day.

After a few early wickets a rebuilding faze was started with Troy Goodwin (70) & Hamish Bartlett (67) coming together for a 5th wicket partnership of 119 runs.

We ended the day all out for 205.

City where in trouble early as the 5th wicket fell for 31before a 74 run 6th wicket partnership came together, Our bowlers continued to take wickets and the 9 wicket fell in the 35th over for 136. City put on an unbeaten 71 run last wicket stand to pip up at the post in what was our 1st graders defeat of the season.
