MDCC Round 13 Completion Wrap 24/1/15

Dora Creek Workers where the opponents this week for D6’s and a trip down to Morisset Hospital saw a difficult time for us. Winning the toss and batting first on the turf wicket saw our batters struggle as we limped to 65 before the last wicket fell. Jordan Walker (22) & Luke Stoodley (18) were the only batters to pass double figures.

With a difficult task on hand our boys did their best but Dora Creek where just to good on the day passing the total in 14 overs ending 3 for 68. Best Bowling: Luke Stoodley (3-18)

Playing Hamilton Station Kamels this round saw a very quick game for our D5’s. After losing the toss and bowling first, our boys were able to bowl Hamilton out for the low total of 57. Bowling figures: Jeeva Ramasamy (3-15), Robert Pollock (2-7), Darren Haiser (2-10) & Daniel Crossley (2-22).

With little pressure on the batters they achieved the run chase in 15.4 overs. Mark Formby (34*) batted out the innings bring the team home with the total ending 2 for 61.

After losing the toss our B5’s where sent into bat by Medowie Cricket Club. After being bowled out for 145 in 31.2 overs it looked like it might of been a good decision. Best with bat: Ben King (40) & Chris Dunn (24).

As we know a pitch can’t be judged until 2 teams have batted on it and our bowlers went to work where able to successfully defend their total bowling out Medowie for 9 for 106. Steven Varnum (3-17) & Phil Apthorpe (2-20) ended with best figures for the day.

A Grade

Our skipper won the toss and chose to bat against Tech College and with a constant fall of wickets could only manage 100 runs, with Craig Plain top score of 26.

Merewether tried hard in the field but it just was one of them days! Where everything that went in the air was just short or just wide and to Techs credit they were just too good on the day and I’m sure we will bounce back next week.

Merewether 10-100 v Tech College 1-101

4th Grade

Beginning the day 50 runs behind Belmont, our 4th graders looked to play the day just like the start of any other game. With some smart batting from Rhys Fallovallita (62) & Pat Huolohan (60) they where successful in getting first innings points. Early on continuing to bat on a declaration came with the total 8 for 249 and 30 overs left in the day this meant Belmont behind by 125 runs.

In an attempt at winning outright the boys fell short after giving it a red hot try. Belmont ended the day 6 for 113. Luke Menzies (2-22), best with ball.

3rd Grade

3rd grade started the day with all 10 wickets still in hand and needed another 224 runs to win this game.

The day turned out to be a difficult one for our number 3s with regular wickets falling the run chase fell short with our team ending all out for 142. Best with bat: Joshua Webb (31), Adam Walker (23) & Callum Linsley (22).

2nd Grade

Belmont started 4 for 42 still 53 runs behind from avoiding an outright loss but our 2s made short work for the day picking up 6 more wickets for only 24runs.

Sam Palmer added another 4 wickets to his earlier 2 from last week to finish with figures of (6-26). With Match figures of (10-29).

1st Grade

Starting the day 1 for 37 and trailing Belmont by 120 runs, the boys lost 3 quick wickets to see themselves at 4 for 57 before and impressive 102 run partnership between Pat Darwen (67) & Josh Emerton (31) made sure no more wickets where to fall before they passed Belmont’s first innings total.

The game was then called as both captains agreed that no other outcome was possible with the remaining overs.
