MDCC Round 2 Half-Way Wrap 11/10/14

This Week our D5’s played Hamilton Station Kamels. After losing the toss the boys had to field and with a solid effort managed to bowl out their opponents for 114 in 26.1 overs. The pick of the bowlers where Scott Hannah (2 for 23) and Michael Sharp (2 for 32)

After a few early wickets Jeeva Ramasamy (26) and Wayne Diemar (47*) came together and made a solid partnership. Getting over the line with 3 wickets to spare they ended 7 for 116 and have started their season in winning fashion.

The first game for our B5’s was against Medowie Cricket Club. Batting first the guys only managed 135 with John Mundey being biggest contributor with 69.

Unfortunately Medowie where to good on the day chasing down the runs 1 for 139.

Still a long season a head and I’m sure the lads will bounce back bigger and stronger.

A Grade

A grade this week had a tough battle against Tech Collage. Winning the toss and electing to bat it became a battle to establish partnerships with only managing 71 all out where Darren Cousins (33) being the biggest contributor the guys had a fight on their hands.

But, as we know these guys never give up the fight Lyle McGuigan was at his menacing best picked up 4 for 18 and had the Tech Boys worried but in the end where unable to get the win with Tech Collage getting over the line 5 for 75.

4th Grade

Having to travel down to Sports Ground No.6 made the most of their opportunity winning the toss and electing to bat young Patrick Huolohan made the most of his first game in 4th grade scoring a solid 81 on debut he was supported with big innings from Mark Cousin (63) & Rhys Fallavollita (43) in a game where almost all were able to get a start. The guys managed to bat the allotted overs and end the day 8 for 299 and now have themself in a strong position for next week. Awesome start to the season. Keep it going.

3rd Grade

Road trip to Uni’s Ray Watt Oval saw the lads put into bat after losing the toss and in his first game with the C next to his name Daryl Daniels managed to get the guys off to a good start ending up with (68). He was partnered well with Chad Mayo (37) who played a technical role rotating the strike and placing the ball into gaps with ease. With the loss of a few quick middle order wickets Adam Walker (33) and Callum Linsley (42*) came together and capitalised finished strong with some powerful hitting helping the lads reach 218 all out.

Having 6 overs left in the day the new ball was given to Cameron Lawes and Grant Smith both managing to take a wicket and placing the team in a strong position to keep attacking next week.

2nd Grade

Playing at Empire Park Our 2nd graders where put into bat on a tricky wicket losing quick wicket Sam Logan (42) was able to get the scoring going but with regular wickets partnerships where hard to come by. Late order runs came with Zac McGuigan (21), Tommy Croft (33), Sam Palmer (31) & Steve Baker (39) they were able to battle to a respectable score of 216 all out.

Having 23 overs required to field we had little luck and Uni managed to end the day 0 for 68. Game still far from over and coming out in their usual aggressive/competitive cricket im sure it will be good finish.

1st Grade

A day of cricket at University Oval saw 21 wickets fall with runs being hard to come by Josh Geary (65) was the only batter to make the most of his start a good bowling display from Uni saw our boys finish all out for 146.

But with true grit and determination the bowling of Sam Gilmour (5 for 27), Harry Colbert (3 for 13) & Josh Geary (2 for 11) did not give any of the Uni batters a look in successfully bowling them out for 49 and obtain 1st innings points.

With still 9 overs to play in the day the guys again took to the crease with the bat and finished the day 1 for 46. Not Out batter’s are Ben Egan (20*) and Captain Simon Moore (0*).

To all players I hope you enjoyed your time out on the field and look forward to seeing what you do next week.
