MDCC Round 4 Wrap 29/10/16 – 5/11/16

 

D6’s 29/10/16

Round 4 saw our D6 side taking on Medowie Cricket Club and after winning the toss our skipper elected to Bat first. Another impressive batting effort from our D6’s saw them bat out their 35 over finishing on a total of 3 for 149 with opener Jordan Walker carrying his bat throughout the innings. 

 

Best with Bat: Jordan Walker (83*) & Shane Pankhurst (29)  

 

Medowie came out aggressive and put our bowlers under the pump early and after the opening pair for Medowie put on a quick 87 runs we found it hard to get back the momentum. Medowie passed our total in the 27th over finishing 5 for 151.

  

Best with Ball: Ricky Pankhurst (2-26) & Ian Davies (2-28)

 

D6’s 5/11/16 

No Game this week for our D6’s as we had the Bye. 

 

 

C3’s 29/10/16

Round 4 saw our C3’s come up against Charlestown and after losing the toss our skipper was asked to bowl.

Our C3’s worked away in the field but could only manage to take 2 wickets however they were able to keep the run rate respectable as Charlestown batted out their overs finishing 2 for 154.   

  

Best with Ball: Joseph Barnett (1-26) & Laughlin O'Connor (1-33).

 

Partnerships were hard to come by for our batters as we lost wickets regularly and Charlestown managed to bowl our side out in 29 overs. We finished 10 for 121  

 

Best with Bat: John Barrett (44).

 

C3’s 5/11/16

There was no play this week for our C3’s however we got maximum points due toa forfeit from the Toronto Workers side. 

 

 

A Grade 29/10/16

Round 4 saw our A Grade side come up against Cricketers Arms CC in their first meeting since last year’s Grand Final.

Cricketers Arms won the toss and elected to bat however our bowlers would make that decision one the Cricketers Arms skipper might regret. Our bowlers did a great job bowling out their opponents for just 50 in 22 overs.

 

Best with Ball:  Cameron Haines (5-27) & Zachary McGuigan (2-6).

 

Our Batters only need 10 overs to chase down the total ending 1 for 54.

 

Best with Bat: Craig Plain (25*) & Chad Penfold (24)

 

A Grade 5/11/16

Round 5 saw us up against Nelson Bay at home. Our skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. We came up against a competitive team and former Lion (Hamish Bartlett) made it hard work for our batters as he managed to take 6 of our wickets which included a hat-trick. We could only manage a total of 10 for 106 off 28.1 overs

 

Best with Bat: Cameron Haines (17)

 

However with our bowling attack the guys went out confident of defending their total and almost pulled off the win, however Nelson Bay passed our total in the 31st over 8 for 108

 

Best with Ball:  Cameron Haines (5-42) & Adam Britt (2-26).

 

 

The District Grades all played University in a two-day match this round.

 

 

4th Grade

Day 1:

Traveling to Ray Watt Oval this round our 4th Graders took on Uni. Losing the toss we were asked to bowl first. Our opening bowlers were able to make early break throughs and apply pressure that the other bowlers followed up. Uni were unable to make many partnerships of substance as our fielding was strong and we were able to keep Uni to a total of 10 for 114 runs in 62.5 overs.

  

Best with Ball: Ryan Osborne (3-29), David Stanbridge (2-5) & Thomas Moore (2-21)

 

7 overs left in the day saw us finish the day 0 for 14.

 

Best with Bat: Justin Hales (11*) & Daryl Daniels (3*).

 

Day 2:

We lost a few early wickets to start the day before a 63 run 5th wicket partnership between Ryan Forbes and Drew Sellers almost saw the team home as Drew sadly lost his wicket just before the team past the total. We finished 5 for 119 from 49.2 overs.

 

Best with Bat: Ryan Forbes (44*), & Drew Sellers (25).

 

 

3rd Grade

Day 1:

Day 1 was called off due to bad weather. This match will be played as a 1 day match next week. 

   

Day 2: 

The day started with a win at the toss for our skipper and we elected to bat first. Uni’s bowlers had us in trouble early as we lost 5 quick wickets with runs hard to come by. Our batters found it hard to get on top of Uni’s bowlers as they managed to bowl out the side for 101 in 38 overs.     

 

Best with Bat: Rory Kalinis (24). 

 

Runs became hard to get for the Uni batters also as the pitch played a little uneven and bowling was winning the day our bowlers managed to take 7 wickets but Uni were able to get over the line in 30.2 overs   

 

Best with Ball: Matt Jordan (3-17) & Jake Miller (3-31)

 

 

2nd Grade

Day 1:

Our 2’s travelled over to University Oval for this rounds match our skipper won the toss and saw enough in the pitch to elect to bowl first and send Uni into bat.

Our bowlers did a great job in taking wickets regularly and managed to bowl out University for a total of 10 for 125 from 48.5 lead largely by Harry Colbert who bowled 12 overs 6 of which were maidens

 

Best with Ball: Harry Colbert (4-9) & Josh Emerton (2-19)

 

31 overs left in the day saw our batters get to 2 for 97 led by Josh Emerton.

 

Best with Bat: Josh Emerton (59*) Scott Montgomery (25) & Chad Mayo (11*)

 

Day 2:

The day well with Emerton picking up where he left off the week before and with a quick run rate the side batted for another 20 overs before their skipper declared 4 for 202 and a lead of 77 runs and 60 over left in the day.  

 

Best with Bat: Josh Emerton (117*) Scott Montgomery (25) & Chad Mayo (25)

 

Uni’s batters played a lot better this time around and as our bowlers worked hard the day came to an end after 52 more overs were bowled with captains agreeing no further result was possible. Uni were 7 for 178 at this time.

 

Best with Ball: Thomas McKendry (3-34)

 

 

1st Grade

Day 1:

1st Grade was at Townson Oval for this rounds play against University. After losing the toss our team was asked to bat first. Runs were shared around by our batters today as many players got starts but fell short with no one making it to 50 however many starts made for a good total as we made a total of 8 for 256 in 88 overs declaring with 2 overs to bowl.

 

Best with Bat: Josh Geary (44), Pat Darwen (33), David Celep (32), Troy Goodwin (32) & Tim O’Neill (28)

 

With 2 overs we managed to pick up 2 wickets both Dan Morton and Tim O'Neill getting one each. Uni finished 2-19 at stumps.

 

Best with Ball: Dan Morton (1-5) & Tim O'Neill (1-10)

 

Day 2:

Our bowlers did a great job and were able to take the final 8 wickets in 42 over with Uni finishing 10 for 131.

 

Best with Ball: Tim O'Neill (6-48) & Dan Morton (3-45).

 

This allowed our skipper to enforce the follow on with a lead of 125 and 48 overs left in the day.

University batted a lot better 2nd time around and were able to bat out the remaining 48 overs and keeping our bowlers out in the middle they ended up 4 for 226.

Country Cricket NSW - McDonalds Country Cup Round 2 - Sun 30 Oct 2016

 

The Guys travelled down to Jubilee Park to take on The Entrance for round 2 of The McDonalds Country Cup. Stepping up to the captaincy Josh Geary won the toss and elected to bat. The guys ended with 211 from their 50 overs.

 

Best with Bat: Josh Emerton (51) & Chad Mayo (44)

 

Our bowlers then went on to defending the total dismissing the hosts for 169 runs.
