MDCC Round 9 Wrap 12/12/15 – 19/12/15

D6’s 12/12/15

Coming up against Toronto Workers this week our D6’s had a hard task with some of their stronger performers this season helping out the district sides again this round. The skipper won the toss and chose to bat and the young guys did well and made sure they batted as long as they could ending all out for 98 off 34.5 overs

Best with Bat: Cormac McHenry (32) & Blake Armson (23)

Toronto’s batters made the most of the extra field space and managed to run down the total ending 2 for 99 in 14.5 overs.

Best with Ball: Ryan Stoodley (2-13)

D6’s 19/12/15

Coming up against the CBCB side we managed to win the toss and bat. Due to players helping out throughout the other grades the guys were able to get a total of 116 off 26.3 overs

Best with Bat: Austin Hymas (32)

Unfortunately the CBCB decided they could bat and ended the match quickly finishing 1 for 123 off 14.3 overs.

Best with Ball: Jamie Bubb (1-31)

Our D6’s go into Christmas 5th on the table.

D4’s 12/12/15

This week saw our D4’s taking on Lords of Grogtown. Winning the toss our skipper elected to bat.

It was a tough ground to score runs on as we managed to score 10 for 88 off 31.4 overs.

Best with Bat: Shane Pankhurst (23) & Steven Hunt (22)

Wickets continued to fall fast with The Lords coming to 9 for 90 off 17.5 overs however match result is in dispute.

Best with Ball: Andrew Webb (5-16) & Darren Haiser (3-7)

D4’s 19/12/15

Hamilton-Wickham were our D4’s opponent this week and after they won the toss they put our lads into bat.

Our boys managed to bat out there 35 overs and finished with a competitive total being 9 for 184.

Best with Bat: Scott Long (46*), Mark Formby (24), Wayne Diemar (22), Michael Sharp (22) & Shane Pankhurst (21).

A few quick wickets saw our boys in a strong position before a big 5th wicket partnership for Hamilton saw the game taken away finishing 4 for 188 off 23.1 overs.

Best with Ball: Darren Haiser (3-46)

Our D4’s go into Christmas 7th on the table.

A Grade (Managers Report) 12/12/15

Merewether lost the toss and got sent in on a wicket that looked good but was found to be quite difficult to bat on, with a big and slow outfield the boys scraped to 7/114 of their allocated 40 overs.

Darren Cousins top scored with 41 and Noah James backed him up with 24no.

Merewether’s strength this season is the depth we have in bowlers and that was the case again with 3 wickets a piece to Adam Britt (3-7), Alec Liddell (3-11) and Luke Miller (3-13) to roll Warners Bay for 48 runs.

Well done boys good to see every one doing there bit.

A Grade (Managers Report) 19/12/15

Merewether played Cricketers Arms in a top of the table clash and after the opposition won the toss the Cricketers Arms chose to bat first and got 10/173 with Lyle McGuigan picking up 4 wickets.

After a solid start the boys lost wickets regular and couldn't build a steady partnership which is what you need to chase down a good score. Skipper Jason Holt top scored with 40 runs in our total of 10/125.

All is not lost because we are still leading the comp but other teams are creeping up so hopefully after the xmas break the boys can bring it home.

A Grade go into Christmas 1st on the table.

4th Grade

Day 1: 12/12/15

This Round sees the sides coming up against Belmont and in 4th grade the Visiting skipper won the toss and we had to go bowl out on Empire.

The bowling was tight all day and with it wickets started to tumble. Keeping Belmont to a total of 10 for 120 off 51 overs.

Best with ball: Nathan Stoodley (4-13), Jake Miller (4-49) & Terry O’Brien (2-26).

Reports say opening bat Jake Miller was on a mission to run down the total in the 19 overs left in the day and although falling after a quick fire half century the guys did exactly that. Finishing 2 for 127 securing 1st innings points.

Best with Bat: Jake Miller (55), Luke Stoodley (39*) & Darren Linsley (16*)

Day 2: 19/12/15

With a lead of 7 runs our 4th grade side batted on in order to set a lead before any push for outright was possible. The side where bowled out for a total of 214 giving them a lead of 94 and 45 overs left in the day.

Best with Bat: Luke Stoodley (72)

Belmont managed to get to a total of 4 for 104 off 32 overs. And both captains agreed no further result was possible.

Best with ball: Terry O'Brien (2-20)

4th grade go into Christmas 7th on the table 6 points away from the top 4.

3rd Grade

Day 1: 12/12/15

Visiting Miller Field this round we turned up to a green top and after Belmont’s skipper won the toss he chose to bowl. Two opening Bats went out with the mindset let’s make it to drinks and see off the new ball.

This was a success as we came back Belmont decided to slow down the pace and really started to dry up the runs where on young man took control of the game Rory Kalnins came out at first drop and managed to bat the best part of the innings remaining not out come end of days play.

Quick wickets fell as our 3rd graders where looking to increase the run rate and every batter put the team ahead of themselves allowing us to get a total of 8 for 220 off the 70 overs.

Best with Bat: Rory Kalnins(60*), Rhys Davies (54) & Patrick O’Neill (46)

Day 2: 19/12/15

The day couldn’t have gone much better for our lads in 3s. After batting out the day last week the bowlers came and did their job superbly and bowled Belmont out for 102 in 29.3 overs.

Best with Ball: Dan Andrews (3-14), Tom Henshaw (2-8), Matt Richards (2-22) & Grant Smith (2-39)

This gave 40 more overs of the day to play and the chance to pick up 20 wickets in the day looked possible.

Belmont never looked like passing the amount of runs needed for our boys to bat again but after a fantastic bowling effort lead by Dan Andrews bowling 10 maidens in 17 overs Belmont lasted the 40 overs finishing 8 for 91.

Best with Ball: Matt Richards (6-35), Dan Andrews (2-19)

Our 3rd Grade go into Christmas 4th on the table.

2nd Grade

Day 1: 12/12/15

Our 2nd grade skipper won the toss and elected to bat and was rewarded with some quality batting from his young side.

A couple of first time bombs from Pat and Cal where a few of the highlights and with support from a few new faces to the side this season you wouldn’t have known the side had players out.

Working together the side managed to score a competitive total of 8 for 243 before a sneaky declaration saw our man take to the field with 3 overs of play.

Best with Bat: Adam Walker (78), Callum Linsley (56) & Pat Huolohan (37)

After the 3 overs Belmont ended the day 1 for 8.

Best with ball: Mitch Morgan (1-8).

Day 2: 19/12/15

Belmont could only manage to bat a further 55 overs before being bowled out for 159. And with bowling tying them down they never looked to challenge the total set. On his 2nd grade debut Tom McKendry put on a show with his left arm tweak getting 5fa.

Best with Ball: Tom McKendry (5-32) & Mitch Morgan (2-59)

Going into Christmas our 2nd graders have snuck into the top 4 on the back of this result.

1st Grade

Day 1: 12/12/15

Cahill Oval was the place for our 1st graders and Belmont‘s skipper won the toss and elected to bat. Things soon turned the way of our bowlers in come back game Mark Cameron made the early breakthroughs before the spin of Tim O’Neill and Courtney Moulton bamboozled the Belmont side leaving them all out for 78 after 36.5 overs.

Best with ball: Tim O’Neill (5-15), Courtney Moulton (2-7) & Mark Cameron (2-29)

Aggressive batting soon saw the total passed and a lead was able to be obtained with opener Josh Geary making the innings his own, he crafted his way to a century and a declaration was made. With the total 4 for 181.

Best with bat: Josh Geary (100*), Troy Goodwin (32), Mark Cameron (29).

With still 7 overs of play to end the day out, Mark Cameron & Sam Palmer where able to take 1 wicket each and leave Belmont 2 for 28.

Best with Ball: Sam Palmer (1-7) & Mark Cameron (1-18).

Day 2: 19/12/15

Belmont’s 2nd innings showed a little more fight managing 155 off a further 51.1 overs where bowled leaving our boys 53 runs to bring up an outright victory.

Best with Ball: Mark Cameron (5-49) & Dave Celep (3-28)

39 overs still in play but our opening pair did the job in 15 finishing 0 for 55.

Best with Bat: Josh Geary (33*) & Mark Cameron (18*)

1st grade go into Christmas top of the table.

Tom Locker Cup Final - 20/12/15

1st grade one day Final was the last chance of cricket before Christmas and our Main Lions made it to the final to Vs the Sea Dragons.

Our skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. Uni’s bowlers bowled well to our Batters and runs were very valuable as we only managed a total of 170 off 47.1 overs.

Best with Bat: Trent Bush (23), Pat Darwen (22) & Mark Cameron (21).

A confident Uni soon were humbled after an absolute ripper of a spell from Scud backed up by Palms and Geary, Uni could only manage 111 in their run chase.

Best with Ball: Mark Cameron (4-23), Josh Geary (3-26) & Sam Palmer (2-36)
