MDCC Round 9 Wrap 10/12/16 – 17/12/16

 

D6’s 10/12/16

Round 10 for our D6’s put us up against the Town Hall Smutters. Losing the toss saw our team out in the field first for a bowl. Fielding has been on song for our D6’s of late and although wickets were hard to come by the side did a great job keeping the runs down. Town Hall were able to bat out their 35 overs finishing 3 for 169

It took our D6’s 28 overs to reach the target just scraping through winning by 1 wicket finishing 9 for 170.

D6’s 17/12/16 

Round 11 and the last before the Christmas break saw us taking on Medowie Cricket Club. The week leading up to the weekend saw some hot days followed by some rainy ones and although getting on the park runs were difficult to get as ball won over bat. Winning the toss our skipper elected to bat andwe could only manage 92 runs in 25.4 overs.

Not mucking around our bowlers went to work and were able to keep Medowie to 50 runs bowling them out in 15.5 overs.

This sees our D6’s sitting 2nd on the table with 6 wins 4 no results (including Christmas Eve round) and 2 losses only 1 point behind Medowie.

 

 

C3’s 10/12/16

Round 10 for our C3’s saw us traveling down to Wyee and after the long drive and a loss at the toss our guys were asked to bowl first. 

We managed to bowl out Wyee in 31 overs for a total of 106.

 

Best with Ball: Tom Henshaw (4-15), Stephen Leathley (3-9) & Ryan Stoodley (2-19)

 

The run chase got off to a rocky start with Damien Saunders the main stay of the innings. The total was passed 7 wickets down in the 29th over.

C3’s 17/12/16

 

Round 11 vs Charlestown was not able to get underway due to bad weather giving the guys a drawn result leading into the Christmas break.

 

This sees our C3’s sitting 3rd on the table with 3 wins 6 no results (including Christmas Eve round) and 3 losses only 3 points behind 2nd place.

 

 

A Grade 10/12/16

Round 10 saw our side up against Redhead. Our batters worked hard to bat out their 40 overs and set a target of 9 for 180.

 

Best with Bat: Chad Penfold (41) & Mark McLachlan (34*)

 

Redhead were looking the goods against our bowlers however we were able to take 10 wickets in 34.3 overs winning by just 4 runs as Redhead ended 10 for 176.

 

Best with Ball:  Adam Britt (4-41) & Cameron Haines (4-56).

 

A Grade 17/12/16

 

Round 11 vs Cricketers Arms CC was not able to get underway due to bad weather giving the guys a drawn result leading into the Christmas break.

 

This sees our A Grade side sitting equal 2nd on the table with 6 wins 4 no results (including Christmas Eve round) and 2 losses only 2 points behind Nelson Bay in 1st place.

 

 

The District Grades all played Newcastle City in a two-day match in the last round before Christmas.

 

 

4th Grade

Day 1:

Our skipper lost the toss this week and the City captain elected to bat first. The pitch out at Empire Park played a little 2 paced which helped our bowlers take 9 quick wickets before City’s last 2 batters managed to spend sometime in the middle. We took the final wicket in the 41st over 

 

Best with Ball:  Drew Sellers (3-11), Pat Fitzgerald (3-13), Mitch Piller (2-18) & Sam Marr (2-20)

 

With 29 overs still to bat DD went out and played an aggressive innings of old sending the City fielders on the defensive right away we lost Daryl’s wicket at 3 for 94 and first innings points in the bag on day one. We finished with on 4-128 from our 29 overs.

Day 2:

Day 2 was called off due to bad weather.

 

4s are sitting 2nd on the ladder with 35 points only 2 points away from Charlestown in 1st place.

 

 

3rd Grade

Day 1:

Playing at Learmonth Park City’s skipper won the toss and elected to bat first our bowlers were soon on top of the match having City 6 for 71 off 33.4 overs at tea before a large partnership was formed from City’s lower order. This partnership allowed City to get to a total of 10 for 217 off 69.2 overs.

 

Best with Ball: Matthew Richards (3-28), Jake Miller (2-15) & Ryan Mitchison (2-28).

   

Day 2: 

Like 4th grade day 2 was called off due to bad weather.

 

3s are sitting 4th on a very close ladder with 27 points only 3 points ahead of 5th place.

  

  

2nd Grade

Day 1:

Winning the toss out at Townson Oval our 2s skipper elected to bat and runs were flowing from the start. Contributions from nearly all batters saw our total reach 8 for 332 off 75 overs before Mitch was able to declare sending City in for the final 5 overs.     

 

Best with Bat: Sam Gilmour (92), Jono Dunn (68), Scott Montgomery (57*) & Josh Emerton (43)

 

We were able to sneak 1 wicket to close out play leaving City 1 for not many.

Day 2:

With the covers doing its job this week our 2nd graders were able to get on the field and complete the game. Wickets fell regularly however city were able to bat for a total of 64.4 overs in the day finishing 10 for 131. With only 15 overs left in the day both skippers walked away deciding no further result would be possible.

2s are sitting top of the table with 42 points only 1 point ahead of Charlestown in 2nd place.

  

 

1st Grade

Day 1:

No 1 Sports Ground saw this rounds match up with City. After losing the toss our skipper was asked to bowl first. Wickets were shared by our bowlers to dismiss City for 147.

  

Best with Ball: Pat Darwen (3-23), Josh Geary (2-15), Dan Morton (2-22) & Sam Palmer (2-33).

 

At Stumps our team was 4 for 62 after 22 overs Troy Goodwin (8*) & Trent Bush (6*) the not out batsman, still behind City by 85 runs.

 

Best with Bat: Simon Moore (26).

 

Day 2:

Play started 30 minutes late to allow the field to dry out a little more before play but we could not pull off a first inning win on this day losing our last 6 wickets in 31 overs finishing 10 for 114 from 53 overs.

With 59 overs left in the day the job was to try and roll city for a low total and go for the reverse outright.

We managed to bowl City out in 43 overs for 129. Leaving 16 overs, for us to score 163 runs.

We went out swing but could only manage 6 for 76 from our overs. The result ended up a loss on first innings heading into the Christmas break.

First grade still sit in the top 4 on the leader board equal on points with 5th place Toronto Workers DC.

 

 

Under 21 Competition Pool B Round 2 - Sun 11 Dec 2016

 

Toronto was the 2nd round opponent for our Under 21’s winning the toss our skipper decided to bowl happy to chase what target was set by Toronto.

This might of back fired as Toronto managed to batout their 50 overs setting a total of 7 for 274.

 

Best with Ball: Mitchell Piller (2-31) & Zac McGuigan (2-48).

 

Our run chase was unsuccessful as our young lions fell all out for 133 from 41.2 overs

 

Best with Bat: Ryan Mitchison (26).
