SCG Country Cup Quarter Final 28/12/14


Our skipper Simon Moore won the toss and elected to bowl in the SCG Country Cup quarter final against Wyong at Keira Oval, Wollongong.

At the first drinks break the Lions had Wyong 3/60 off 17 overs with Sam Gilmour, Tim O’Neill & Courtney Moulton all taking a wicket. The bowling continued to apply pressure and at the 34th over Merewether have Wyong 7/104. Time O'Neill lead the attack with a very tidy (4-20) off his allotted 10 overs. At the close of Wyong’s innings our Lions dismiss Wyong for 147.

Other Notable Bowling figures went to Courtney Moulton (2-32) & Sam Gilmour (2-40).

The Guys got off to a steady start before we lost our first wicket in the 10th over but Simon Moore (81) & Pat Darwin (34) came together to provide a 91 run partnership which set the side up for victory a few late wickets saw the guys finish 4 for 149. Troy Goodwin (14*) and Josh Emerton (3*) ended the not out batters.


With this win Merewether where to take on Dubbo in the Semi Final the following day.


SCG Country Cup Semi Final 29/12/14


Again our skipper won the toss but this time elected to bat in the SCG Country Cup semi against Dubbo at Figtree Oval, Wollongong. 

Simon Moore (76) & Josh Geary (42) put together a 71 run partnership to provide a solid platform to work from and with Troy Goodwin (28) & Sam Gilmour (28) helping out in the top order Merewether got to a total of 4 for 173 in the 39th over. The last 11 overs saw a further 5 wickets fall and 46 runs added for the lads to finish 9 for 219.

With 219 runs to defend our bowlers got off to a cracking start with Dubbo on 3-30 after 10 overs. Mark Cameron had 2 wickets. Tim O'Neill 1. The Bowlers continued to be on fire and got Dubbo to a total of 7 for 73 in the 22nd over before a big tail wag from Dubbo provided a tense 2nd half to the innings a 82 run 8th wicket partnership followed by 45 run 9th wicket partnership got Dubbo to 9 for 200. The final wicket was to fall on the last ball of the 49th over finishing 10 for 208.

Best figures for our bowlers went to: Tim O’Neill (4-32), Mark Cameron (3-50) & Sam Gilmour (2-40).



This sets up an all Newcastle SCG Country Cup Grand Final between Merewether & Hamilton-Wickham to be played at the SCG on January 18.
